Reviewers
Manuscript reviewers should take into account the following criteria when conducting their evaluation:
-
Knowledge and expertise on the subject under review.
-
Availability of time to carry out the evaluation. Reviewers must adhere to the deadlines established for the review process, which, in most cases, correspond to 15 business days following receipt of the article and the evaluation forms. If additional time is required due to particular circumstances, the reviewer must notify the journal and specify the additional time needed.
-
Commitment to confidentiality, ensuring that the content of the manuscript is not disclosed at any stage of the review process.
Once the reviewer has accepted the invitation to evaluate, they are expected to complete the evaluation exercise by filling out the form provided by the journal in full. The form should include the following elements:
-
Title of the manuscript evaluated.
-
Date of evaluation.
-
Verdict. To determine the outcome of the evaluation, the reviewer should sum the scores assigned to each evaluation criterion. Based on the reference table at the end of the form, the final verdict can then be established.
-
Score for each criterion, according to the defined scale.
-
Specific comments. Provide detailed observations for each criterion; these comments will be shared with the author(s) to improve the manuscript.
-
Aspects to improve. Summarize the main areas for improvement in the article that were not explicitly mentioned in the specific comments.
-
Added value. Highlight notable elements of the article, such as its originality, practical implications, and contributions to the field of knowledge.
The possible outcomes a manuscript may receive after evaluation are as follows:
-
Publishable without modifications (100 points)
-
Publishable with minor modifications (90–99 points)
-
Publishable with minor and some structural modifications (80–89 points)
-
Publishable with major structural modifications (65–79 points)
-
Not publishable (less than 65 points)
